Singapore: More Than a Stopover for Golfers

Golfers are playing golf at Marina Bay Golf Course.

Championship golf, island escapes and cultural discoveries make Singapore worth more than a quick connection.

Singapore is familiar to international travellers as a place to change planes, conduct business or spend a night between destinations. Yet golfers who venture beyond Changi Airport will find a city with championship courses, distinctive island scenery and enough cultural attractions to justify a longer stay.

Championship Golf on Sentosa Island

At the centre of its golfing appeal is Sentosa Golf Club, home to two contrasting courses: The Serapong and The Tanjong

The Serapong is the headline attraction. A venue for the Singapore Open and LIV Golf Singapore, its championship layout combines strategic bunkering, water hazards and demanding greens with views of Singapore’s harbour and skyline. On the par-three eighth, the port lies to one side and a lake to the other, creating a particularly memorable test.

The Tanjong offers a different experience, with views towards the Singapore Straits and the surrounding cityscape. Together, the courses make Sentosa an appealing base for golfers seeking two contrasting rounds without travelling between distant resorts.

Access, however, requires planning. Sentosa Golf Club accepts visitor booking requests, but tee times are subject to approval and availability. Its published 2026 visitor rates, including buggy fees and GST, are S$501.40 on weekdays and S$643.10 at weekends and on public holidays. Official handicap requirements also apply.

“The stopover can become the holiday itself.”

Beyond the Fairways

Capella Singapore offers a secluded luxury retreat amid the tropical greenery of Sentosa Island, just moments from Singapore's premier golf experiences.

Singapore’s appeal extends well beyond the scorecard. On Sentosa Island, Capella Singapore occupies 30 acres of landscaped grounds centred on restored colonial buildings dating from the 1880s. Its accommodation, dining and Auriga Spa provide a quieter contrast to the city’s commercial centre.

The hotel’s cultural experiences offer another way to discover Singapore. In Joo Chiat, The Intan is a private home museum devoted to Peranakan heritage, where guided visits introduce traditional craftsmanship, family customs and personal collections. Advance booking is essential.

For a different perspective, visitors can explore the Southern Islands, including Lazarus and Kusu, or spend an evening around Marina Bay before visiting the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel, birthplace of the Singapore Sling.

Planning Your Singapore Golf Escape

Weather is another consideration. October is typically warm and humid, with an average daily maximum of 31.8°C and around 15 rainy days. Flexible plans are advisable, particularly when afternoon thunderstorms affect play.

Championship golf at Sentosa offers a memorable experience, but advance planning is essential.
Before You Play
  • Request tee times well in advance; visitor bookings require approval.
  • Confirm current green fees and handicap requirements.
  • Allow flexibility for tropical showers and thunderstorms.

More Than a Stopover

Championship golf at Sentosa offers a memorable experience, but advance planning is essential.

Singapore may not offer the extensive choice of resort courses found elsewhere in Southeast Asia. What it does provide is championship golf alongside city dining, heritage and island experiences, all within a relatively compact destination.

For golfers willing to arrange their rounds in advance, the stopover can become the holiday itself.
